Distance Learning Committee (DLC)

  • The DLC has the overall responsibility of DL programs operation at the University, the policy development/supervision & quality assurance.
  • Development of DL programs
  • Coordinates and enables quality assurance mechanisms regarding instructors, procedures, courses etc.
    • Quality assurance – cooperation with the Quality Assurance Committee of the University
    • Communicates and coordinates quality assurance mechanisms, decisions and the strategy of the distance learning programs to the responsible bodies of the University.
  • Disseminating e-learning practices in all programs

Support and development of the DL programs infrastructure – close cooperation with the LSU

  • Oversees & coordinates in collaboration with the LSU and ODLC, DL instructors’ and Teaching assistants (TAs) training & professional development
  • Defines roles, tasks and responsibilities for DL instructors and TAs
  • Provides ongoing support to course coordinators and instructors & monitors the development of the teaching materials curricula
  • Monitors and controls the application of the distance learning Distance Leanring Pedagogical Framework & provides training for the improvement of program of studies quality where necessary
  • The DLC and the existing operational framework guarantee the appropriate mechanisms for the distance learning program development and support, adopting in this way the most up-to-date technologies and pedagogical theories

 

Distance Learning Unit (DLU)

  • The DLU administratively supports & constitutes the reference point for all DL students and instructors of the DL programs
  • It is the administrative body of the DL which is associated with the DL programs operation
  • It is a single reference point for DL students, instructors & officers involved
  • Main responsibilities:
  • Applying the policy decisions of the DLC
  • Connecting with students, instructors and basic student services (Studies Office, Admissions Office)
  • Collecting, tracking and managing questions and enquiries of the distance learning students and instructors as well as further channeling them to the relevant unit/service
  • Coordination and implementation of the exam process
  • Monitoring and updating the DL website
  • Providing support for DL students and instructors by developing useful guidelines
  • Absorbing requests regarding ordering new textbooks and monitoring the process
  • Filling in all documents requested by the responsible bodies in Cyprus and Greece DIPAE and DOATAP and that fall within the sphere of its activities

 

Learning Support Unit (LSU)

  • Provides support to technical issues regarding accessibility & operation of various information systems required for distance learning.
  • Provides and promotes technical services offered to all representatives in relation to e-learning.
  • Collaborates with the Information Systems Unit in order for the LMS and FRE (Student Information Systems) to be integrated, interconnected and compatible
  • Identifies and acts upon the integration of new technological developments and enhancements
  • Responsible for:
    • Evaluating, proposing and improving the technical infrastructure to support e-learning
    • Maintaining and preserving the e-learning platform (LMS)
    • Further developing the use of the e-learning platform (LMS) (technological tools integration and use)
    • Providing technical support to users (instructors, students & officers)

 

Open and Distance Learning Center (ODLC)

The Open and Distance Leaning Centre (ODLC) aims to promote & further develop the open and distance learning at the University and in society in general. Specifically, it aims to:

  • Educate, train and support (researching and teaching) instructors and students who are involved in teaching and learning in open and distance learning environments, through the pedagogical utilization of up to date technological tools
  • Promote research in the fields of open and distance education and learning, and providing advisory services
  • Contribute to the promotion & continuous updating of open and distance learning methods at the University
  • Organize educational programs and training activities for instructors and students with the aim of pedagogical utilization of up to date distance education and learning technological tools
  • Support SEP, DEP and TA members of the University with the aim of training them in the pedagogical utilization of modern distance learning technological tools
  • Develop quality educational interactive/digital material for use in distance learning programs of undergraduate and postgraduate level, conventional, mixed and distance learning
  • Strengthen the training of SEP, DEP, TA members of Frederick University in developing, shaping and enriching the educational/digital material, the interactive activities of formative assessment, in line with international standards
  • Provide tools, instruments and physical space for conducting courses and workshops for designing and developing digital/interactive educational material
  • Develop and organize workshops and training seminars for educational and academic conferences in open and distance learning topics
  • Support and pedagogically enhance the DLC and DLU
  • Collect and analyse information and data collected from the e-learning platform for the purpose of:
  • Conducting research, teaching measures and experiments aiming to upgrade policies and learning in online environments
  • Developing reports on educational and pedagogical practices in open and distance learning
  • Identifying deviations and problematic situations and taking amending actions
  • Getting involved in funded research projects and actions, ERASMUS programmes and develop research reports for presentation of results and conclusions related to open and distance learning
  • Provide consultation services and training in open and distance learning topics
