DLMQA504 - CASE-STUDY APPLICATIONS - QUALITY ASSURANCE IN ENGINEERING (LAB)

This module presents ways to assure the quality of the products and/or services provided. More specifically it deals with tools necessary to succeed continuous improvement through the design, development, implementation and monitoring of a quality system. Amongst others it deals with areas such as: a) developing & implementing External & Internal Audits, b) designing a document management system, c) applying monitoring and measurement, d) identifying non-conformities and taking preventive and corrective actions e) defining scope and policy and learning how to develop and flowchart procedures. All the above are presented through case study applications.

This module consists of the following:

  • Defining and communicating quality assurance scope
  • Planning and defining objectives
  • Becoming familiar with the terms:  training, communication and documentation

Monitoring evaluation concerning internal audit processes

DLMQA505 - RESEARCH METHODS

Business research means undertaking systematic research to find out things about business in general. Research does not only need to provide findings that advance knowledge and understanding but it also needs to address business issues and problems. It needs to provide original insight into a phenomenon by advancing knowledge. When research is taken various characteristics and a procedure should be followed. The literature review is one of the most important parts of research. This is the task that one does become aware of the available body of knowledge in the area. It is an integral part of any research project and its helps in many steps of the ongoing research. The research strategy and design are the essential parts of any research topic. It can be qualitative or quantitative depending on the research question or hypothesis in mind. There are various issues regarding both methodologies, one important is sampling. In doing research one can use interviews, questionnaires or even online databases. Finally when the results of a research strategy are obtained, and the researcher needs to write the report, there exists a specific structure that he/she should follow.

This module consists of the following:

  • Introduction to research
  • Literature review
  • Research strategy and design
  • Data collections using interviews, questionnaires and online databases
  • Writing the research project

DLMQA507 - SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Organizations in the private and public sectors are under increasing pressure to improve their performance in terms of efficiency, quality and service and become more competitive. Management in the modern world is also becoming increasingly complex. Organizations are required to establish a network of collaborators both for sourcing the materials and services they need to perform their operations, as well as for providing and selling their own products and/or services. With the impact of globalization and improvement in logistics and transportation capabilities, the performance of this network becomes more and more critical in the success of the operations of an organization. Supply Chain Management deals with the design and execution of this collaboration from the most upstream provider through all the different steps and organizations required downstream until the product or service reaches the customer. Recent literature is rich with examples of firms whose success or failure is mainly attribute to the effectiveness of this supply chain.

DLMQA506 - OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

Organizations in the private and public sectors are under increasing pressure to improve their performance in terms of efficiency, quality and service and become more competitive. Management in the modern world is also becoming increasingly complex. Problems are becoming more difficult to solve and the timescales available to solve them are becoming shorter. Whether in the products or services sector, the above aspects are central to the success of the organization in the modern environment. All activities that relate to the delivery of these goods or services can be treated as operations and to this end, Operations Management deals with how organizations can model, design, organize, and monitor their activities in order to deliver them in the most efficient and effective way.

DLMQA508 - ENGINEERING DESIGN FOR SIX-SIGMA

Engineering Design for Six Sigma is an approach to new engineering products or process where innovation is required. Improving existing products and processes uses six sigma methodology and an appropriate toolset to ensure that problems that have appeared insoluble are solved and then remain solved. The premise of EDfSS is that for any problem that occurred in the design process, the risk must have existed at the beginning of the project: either that or the project requirements have not been clearly understood or defined. This course is designed to show participants how the EDfSS approach to product and process design enables organisations to clearly quantify requirements, identify and minimise risk and optimise robust new designs in rapid timescales. The end result is more effective new products, services and processes produced in rapidly reduced timescales.
